Braves 5, Cubs 1

Max Fried, the man with the name you’d like to pun, (but you mustn’t pun) went 5 innings, and 4 relievers shut down the Cubs from there to give Fried the win in his 1st major league start. Rio Ruiz drove in 3 runs, and Freddie Freeman and Dansby Swanson joined Ruiz in collecting 2 hits.  Ian Happ’s 2nd inning home run spoiled the shutout.

The Braves salvage a game from the 4 game set and return home to play Texas on Monday.

The funniest thing I ever heard about Chicago: Hit it.

  1. Fried is still 11 IP behind his total from last year. If they wanted to continue to up his total, he could pitch a lot in September.

Gohara gets called up tomorrow, and after only pitching 80 innings last year, he’s already up to 123. I don’t think we will see that much from him.

After Sims’ clunker, you could make the argument that based on recency but ceiling and the future that Fried should be getting starts if they go with a 5-man.

  2. Relatively small sample size, but Albies looks like the real deal. I hope the Braves give Rio Ruiz plenty of chances vs RHP down the stretch also.

  3. I would be fine replacing Sims with Fried. As I’ve said before, Sims is a BOR type at best. He’s another John Gant, Robert Whalen, Aaron Blair, etc. type of guy.

  4. Rio’s power has surprised much this time up, particularly against lefties, the Lester thing into the wind. Two in or over the ivy in 24 hours. Seems he might be taking the opportunity of Camargo’s absence to tell us he has power too.

Albies doesn’t just look like the real deal he is the real deal. Does anyone have the Joe Maddon quote on him?

You classify Sims too quickly, there is something extra about him. Intelligence, maybe.

    Luiz Scarlett O’Ghara
has been called up from Double A Tara
his manager, Brett, has said to a fan
Frankly, my dear, he don’t give a damn.

    Bermanesque.

Touki three’s company Toussaint. Got it?

Rob ‘recency but ceiling’?? I’m still trying.

  5. They said Aaron Blair had “something extra” too, until it didn’t translate above AAA and then he didn’t.

  6. @7

    Fair Try..the answer is lovely…

    Touki three’s company Twos aint

    @6
But was it intelligence, Sam? Which will cover a multitude of sins.

  7. @ 10
I should mention that I didn’t even consider the All Saints Day thing… I was referring to the comic book series Tüki Save the Humans.

  8. My nickname ideas:

    Southern Nights
    The Haitian Sensation
    The Other Answer to Everything

If I was Chris Berman it would be Touki “Or Not To Key”…but then Chris Berman is going to Hell so that’s not a nickname I’d endorse.
