Phillies 12, Braves 2 (by spike)

So it turns out we got some extra cable channels just for the heck of it — well actually because my kid wanted to see a movie on Disney and we were able to badger the cable company in the giving us a bunch of stuff for a limited time. As a result I finally got to see the Braves in living color and live in the comfort of my own home for the first time in a few seasons.

I really don’t see how you guys do it. I made it through a few innings and had to go to a bar, where I made it through a couple more and had to go back to my porch and the radio. I suppose I should be more charitable – facing a murderers row of Odubel Herrera, Freddy Galvis and Cameron Rupp what can you really hope for? Did you know that Ryan Howard’s OPS is 300 points higher against Atlanta than the rest of the league? I’ll bet you do now! Now if somebody would tell Fredi and alert our pitching staff that would be very handy.

Oh well, I think in our hearts we all knew that the illusion of competitiveness that early timely hitting and unexpected performances created would not continue for the entire season. The roof has officially caved in now, and it ain’t going to be put back anytime soon.

  1. Apparently there’s someone named Daniel Castro playing shortstop today. Never knew we had a Daniel Castro on the team.

  2. The Braves haven’t been swept in a four-game series in Philly since Truman was President. And we have Road Julio pitching and a hitters’ paradise today.

@3 I’m pretty sure I could only name about half of our current roster off the top of my head. And if Simmons goes on the DL tomorrow with his sprained thumb, that percentage will go down. I feel like every day someone walks out of the dugout in a Braves uniform I didn’t know was on the team.

  3. I mentioned three roster changes ago that I was beginning to tire from the constant roster tweaking, and hopefully we’ll go through a dead period for now.

I’m looking forward to seeing the rotation work itself out in the second half and seeing if we have a closer in Vizcaino, a CF in Maybin, a 2B in Peterson, and monitoring Bethancourt’s work in AAA. A lot to watch for.

  4. Dear Braves, just STOP pitching to Ryan Howard. Completely. It’s just not worth it. Sincerely, me.

  5. I was thinking earlier today, we’re either going see Julio throw a gem out there, or we’ll see Julio throw a full-on temper tantrum.

    So far, the former.

  6. Jace! How about this? This pitcher must really suck.

You should’ve gotten odds on the tortoise while you could, by the way. They’re getting less favorable by the minute.
