Clinically depressed game thread: June 28, Red Sox at Losers

Oppressed pitcher“Hola, this is Braves starting pitcher Javier Vazquez, and I’m wondering: Do I have to do everything around here?”

“This is Braves starting pitcher Jair Jurrjens, and I’m wondering the same thing. I’m definitely taking extra batting practice.”

“You’re telling me. Who built this offense, the Three Little Pigs?”

“At least you’re a strikeout pitcher. You try letting balls in play for this defense.”

“Ouch. Hey, do you ever feel like hitting Francoeur in the face with a fastball?”

Likewise oppressed pitcher“Wrong question. When do I not feel like hitting him in the face with a fastball?”

“Good point. Still, it’s probably all our fault for not ‘knowing how to win’.”

  1. I would be shocked if he does. Apparently, he was feeling pretty terrible yesterday

  2. The Indians just sent DeRosa to St Louis for a reliever and a PTBNL. Atlanta should have beat that.

  3. First of all, let’s reserve judgement on the DeRosa trade until we find out who the PTBNL is. I have a feeling it is a pretty damn good player. Secondly, Chris Perez is a future closer, a very good prospect/player. Third of all, it’s just Mark DeRosa. He’s a good utility player, but not much more.

  4. LINEUP:
    1. Blanco
    2. Johnson
    3. Chipper
    4. McCann
    5. Anderson
    6. Kotchman
    7. Francoeur
    8. Hernandez
    9. Hanson

Once again Diaz on the bench and worthless waste if space in right. I’ve quit trying to understand why.

  5. KJ is batting second?!?!? so we start the game with a weak ball hit to second for the first of many double plays.

  6. TBS is currently showing “The Bad News Bears”, aka the 2009 Atlanta Braves.

  7. The Bad News Bears actually won a bunch of ballgames and was in the championship. Don’t see that happening here.

  8. Why does nobody ever tell Bobby Cox: “You can’t do that”. You can’t use injury prone relievers coming off major surgeries 4 days in a row. You can’t start a 22 year old phenom when he has the Flu. And you can’t keep playing Jeff Francoeur because he sucks.

  9. “Here’s Jeff Francoeur… he’s first-pitch swinging… he’s in the hole…”

And this just in: water is still wet.

  10. In high school I watched someone almost die taking a ball to the head. I wouldn’t wish that on anybody.

  11. I don’t know what’s more amazing, or less likely to hold up, that the Braves are winning — or that the Americans are beating Brazil.

  12. The ACHE comes through.

Thanks, Mac. Now I’m watching soccer.

Sounds like the Killer Bees are attending the soccer match.

  13. I bet the Red Sox are getting frustrated with Bobby, usually we have a sacrifice every other inning. Most teams only have to make two outs against us per inning. Bobby is making them get 3 in all but the 3rd

  14. whoever designed the Americans soccer uni’s must have put alot of thought into the all white.

  15. Frenchy was destined to get out this inning anyways..he reached on an error & had to right the ship & manufacture the out

  16. Between Chipper and Anderson there is a lot of space for opposing batters to put balls. I love this team!

  17. see, javy and jair, get some advice from tommy. that’s 20 straight SCORELESS innings. if you give up runs, you’re doomed.

  18. jordan schafer back in gwinnett’s lineup. he is 1 for 2 with a stolen base in the 5th.

  19. has a pitching staff ever gone on strike??? and the key to beating the braves is simply pressure their D & watch them buckle

  20. Way to clean up your own mess there, KJ.

Speaking of that play, I’m shocked that Ellsbury wasn’t running. Moylan is crap at holding runners, and Ellsbury is one of the better base stealers out there. Seems like a relatively easy call to me.

  21. Phillies just won. Toronto hat 2 on, nobody out against Lidge. Then a popup, then they picked the runner off second (!), then a groundout to end it. So 5 back at best today.

  22. I was watching the soccer. Tough loss, but Brazil is certainly great. That comeback was impressive and they even got robbed a goal. Shoulda been 4-2.

C’mon, Gonzo. Let’s put ’em away.

  23. US loses 3 to 2. Can’t finish. Dang it. Great match though. Brazilians are just fantastic soccer players.

  24. Wasn’t all Kelly’s fault. I mean, it was incredibly stupid to not just get the 4-6-3 in the first place, but the other 2 infielders contributed to the botched run down. Mostly Kelly’s fault.

  25. The radio announcers said he played it perfectly, but then, I tend not to believe them. They also worked overtime to argue Francoeur is a great base runner despite his gaffe earlier, so…

    At least we’ve salvaged one.

  26. KJ’s gotta know the situation. Youk did exactly what he’s supposed to do, which is sucker the 2B into chasing him.

  27. I wonder what Tom Glavine must be thinking right now. “I was gonna give them 20.3 shutout innings in a row as well” or what?
