Braves 3, Mets 2 (That can’t be right!)

ESPN – Braves vs. Mets – Box Score – September 13, 2008

Yes, the Braves won a one-run game on the road! I know!

The Mets took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning, but it could have been worse; the second run scored on a bases-loaded double play. Hampton got another bases-loaded double play to get out of a jam in the sixth.

But the Braves couldn’t score against Johan Santana. Not that that’s such an easy thing, but it wasn’t for lack of opportunities. Finally, Santana wore down and let the first two on in the eighth. Kotchman, who had a great day (3-3 with a walk) got a hit against the LOOGY to load the bases (McCann was at second, so there was no chance to score). Unfortunately, it brought Francoeur to the plate… only he hit a grounder up the middle to score two runs. It all seems exceedingly unlikely, but it wasn’t like he hit it well. After a bunt, Norton was walked to load the bases, and Infante scored Kotchman on a sac fly to make it 3-2.

Ohman got Lazarus on a weak flyout to start the eighth, then Bennett struck out the next two. Gonzalez had a 1-2-3 ninth, striking out Reyes to end it.

This will serve as the game thread for tonight’s game. No video, the internet is acting up.

UPDATE: Here’s the video.

  1. This has to be the exact opposite of the typical braves game this season. Francoeur actually helping the team, winning a one run road game, coming from behind to win.

  2. that’s ok… the Braves came back to win a one-run game on the road (against the mets, no less). my alma mater laid the smack down 59-0 (i know, it’s not like it was against a power house, but a quality win. humor me). and i passed my first two prelim exams on my way to becoming a dissertator. everything’s coming up millhouse!
