Andruw did the heavy lifting, Tim Hudson pitched well, and the Braves pulled even in the series. Andruw hit a pair of homers on the game. His solo shot in the fifth tied the game and broke up a perfect game bid by Jason Marquis. Then in the sixth, he hit a grand slam to give the Braves a 6-1 lead and chase Marquis. He added a walk in the ninth.
Hudson went seven and allowed six hits, one walk, and one run, that in the first, and struck out four. 67 of his 96 pitches were strikes. With a 6-1 lead Bobby didn’t push him. Farnsworth allowed a hit and hit a guy in the eighth but pitched around it. Reitsma pitched the ninth, probably because he hasn’t pitched much recently, and allowed a hit.
In addition to Andruw, Betemit had a big game. He doubled home Francoeur in the fifth to give the Braves a 2-1 lead. And he singled and scored as the Braves got two insurance runs in the ninth. McCann was the only Braves starter not to get a hit.
To win the series, all the Braves have to do is beat Chris Carpenter. Good luck with that. Afternoon game, Sosa on the mound for the Braves on TBS… The Mets won, the rest of the division plays tonight.
