  1. If I were to subscribe to BP, it would be for “Under the Knife”. I’ve heard enough good things about that column second hand to give me reason to believe it’s a step above the rest of the content on that site.

  2. I hope he doesn’t get in trouble.

Joey – what you’ve heard is right. It’s the best regular column they have going for them. And, really, one of the best anywhere.

  3. I don’t know where your crazy predictions thread is, but here’s mine…

The next first time call up from the minors will be …

    Jonathon Schuerholz

I believe Furcal will have to go on the DL at some point with his shoulder. If so, I’ll think they’ll look for a true shortstop. Between JS and Pena, JS bats 25 points higher, walks significantly more, has almost an 80 point higher OPS, has fewer strikeouts, and has committed fewer errors.

I saw JS at Auburn and thought it was a joke to draft him. He has seemed to pick it up over the past few months in Mississipi. That being said, he’ll probably never be very good, but he may be their best option. I thought he would be on his way out at this point!

  4. I’m pretty sure Furcal’s shoulder and knee are healing nicely. No likely DL trip for him, from what I understand.

  5. I don’t expect Furcal to be DL’d next week, but I just think it will be before September. I don’t see any other 1st time call ups except maybe a 1st baseman if Laroche or Franco goes down. Thorman seems to be fading a little.
