  1. I meant to have 2 l’s(not one as Wil Cordero has) on that one but seems those dastardly Natspos have even affected my typing.

  2. Listening to Bobby’s pregame radio broadcast (repeated on tonights telecast) it sounds as if the Ump deserves more games in a suspension than Bobby, Johnny, and Mike get altogether.

  3. Ump asked if Johnny thought that pitch was good. Johnny replied “Yeah, I think it was.” The ump answered with a string of cussing and berating that prompted Johnny to get up and confront him. The rest you saw on Sportscenter, if not live.

  4. Cox is biased, of course, but that sounds like baiting the player to me. MLB should call up Paul Lo Duca, ask him what happened, and suspend the ump if his account is anything like Cox’s. I doubt it will happen though. It’s not that MLB is unprincipled about this sort of this, just disinterested and completely ineffective. Umpire’s put up with a lot of crap and their job is not easy, but they can’t get all pissy and pick fights every time someone jumps the gun a little on a borderline call… which, assuming Johnny didn’t do any undo jawing at him after, is all that happened.

  5. And here I was about to say how lucky we were that Ryan Howard apparently didn’t make it to Philly on time…

  6. I finally get why Betemit has been batting so low in the lineup. It’s a paradigm shift–the highest batting average in the lineup must bat either 8th or 9th…Understanding is good…

  7. Kelly Johnson is looking like a legit stud. Patience, eye, and power. He has it all.

  8. He has bad timing, though. He’s only hit one homer that wasn’t on damn Turner South. I hate this time of year.

  9. Good thing Cox isn’t a reactionary like so many around here or Johnson would have been gone after 30 at bats. Some of you need to keep that in mind next time you’re wondering why Cox is taking so long to do something you think must be done right away.

  10. Ya know, I think I’d really like TSouth if it were on my cable lineup. The fact that it is not, and that they have 45 Braves games, makes me really frustrated. Thank GOD for MLB Extra Innings. (except when they play Florida)

  11. No kidding…one would think that Florida would be far enough south to get TurnerSOUTH, but appearantly not.

  12. Every time Bell screws up, someone should flash a picture of Placido Polanco at Ed Wade with the message YOU TRADED THE WRONG GUY, MORON.

I’m pretty sure most people around here were in favor of KJ. He was hitting balls hard, he had a good walk rate, and he hardly struck out.

Bernero, though. There you’ll find some conflict.

  14. Oh, and yes, Ed Wade is an moron. What is this fascination people have with David Bell?

  15. Funny, my mom has it in Gadsden. This is the only time of year I look forward to going to Gasden.

  16. I graduated HS in Clarksville, and mom and dad still reside there. I am now in Orlando (Thus the Florida blackouts) – teaching HS… mom and dad have TS on their cable – Charter, I think – in Clarksville.

I wouldn’t be so sure. There were some I recall questioning why KJ was playing, maybe not calling for him to be sent down, but they wouldn’t have given him the at-bats to work out of it like Cox did. People criticize Bobby all the time for getting people in who are struggling. But it’s a simple philosphy that is proven. They won’t get better if they don’t play.

  19. Browsing through the archives from earlier this month, you’ll find many references to how Johnson sucks, will never hit, and should be traded for (fill in name of mediocre outfielder or adequate reliever).

  20. Browsing through the archives from earlier this month, you’ll find many references to how Johnson sucks, will never hit, and should be traded for (fill in name of mediocre outfielder or adequate reliever).

But were any by anyone other than Alex R?

    I kid, I kid, Alex…

  21. DANGIT! Your folks are further away and have it. I hate Comcast.

Yes, too many KJ haters around then. I know I wondered aloud once how long it could go on, but I think that’s as far as I ever went. I sure hope so.

  22. I don’t know how many of you are watching the game ( I live in PA and have the Philly broadcast) but Andruw hit an absolute rocket. I mean it was a lined shot… looked like one of those Sheffield would have hit.

  23. I know Andruw loved the vet. I guess there’s even more (or is it less) to love in the new place.

  24. Do you know how tempting it is to want to talk about “dirty bombs” in light of Mac’s name confusion? If you think the cracks that I do throw out there aren’t funny, just remember that there are plenty I keep to myself.

  25. Browsing through the archives from earlier this month, you’ll find many references to how Johnson sucks, will never hit, and should be traded for (fill in name of mediocre outfielder or adequate reliever).

I thought I recalled such. Atleast I know I’m not getting senile.

Wish I could see these Andruw bombs instead of just hear about them.

  26. Should some scouts realise by now that Andruw will destroy every down and in pitches?!

  27. Grst, everytime I see the catcher setting up inside when Andruw is hitting, I am anticipating an HR. Pretty greedy am I?!

  28. Creynolds, tggrschult, I’m formally from Nashville (Springfield actually, but people not from middle Tennessee don’t know where that is), I went to college at Austin Peay. I’m now in Athens, GA attending law school at UGA. As far as the Turner South situation goes, in Clarksville on campus we had it (Charter). And when I wasn’t on campus I had Direct TV. Of course I have Turner South here in Athens. Umm, I think that’s all.

  29. Andruw – I have nothing original to say about how well he’s playing.

KJ has a 19:17 K/BB ratio. That kind of control of the strike zone reminds me of Chipper when he came up (IIRC, he had more walks than Ks for several years when he first made the show). Don’t know if he’ll replicate Chipper’s success, but it sure is good to see him raking after that rough start.

  30. Trouble in Philly-land. Wagner is opening his mouth again and saying something that needs to be said about the team’s lack of motivation and some people don’t like it. The truth hurts. They’ve done nothing but gone backwards since they traded for Urbina. Sometimes, it’s better for another team other than the Braves to pick up someone. It’s helped them tremendously. Now only if the Marlins would trade for a disgruntled Gary Sheffield or someone similar to Urbina.

Have the Natspos played the Central Division for the past two weeks other than the Blue Jays? It seems they have played all of their games against the Pirates and Brewers lately. Hopefully it will even out when they play the Cardinals and an improving Houston team that is now only 6 games under .500.

  31. Grst, everytime I see the catcher setting up inside when Andruw is hitting, I am anticipating an HR. Pretty greedy am I?!

Heh, not at all. I think the same thing everytime I see a fastball coming in over the plate around the letters when he’s up there.

  32. Latnam –
Let’s Go Peay! Class of ’95. There’s an ad on TS where a Sig Chi says – I have always been southern, I was just raised most of my life in the wrong place.” That would apply to me. I grew up in Wisconsin, but I am Southern through and through. Graduated Clarksville (TN) HS, Graduated Austin Peay, Never been back to WI since I moved to TN in ’88. I was a Brewers fan until I moved to TN. Didn’t want to go at the time, but now, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I owe my allegiance to the Braves to that move…. no MLB team in Tennessee, so I began watching the Braves in 89. Never looked back since.

  33. Smoltz on threw 85 pitches. Nice. Thank goodness for big leads. Wonder if it was contingent upon Kolb not pitching.

  34. It looks like Andruw’s BB:K ratio is now 31:56. For a power hitter, that’s not bad.

  35. I was at the NCAA tournament game in ’87 when the Peay beat Illinois. And the one after that when they couldn’t hit their free throws to beat freaking Providence.

  36. Damn…. those games live in the annals of history at the Peay. DId you get to see Vitale stand on his head after the Illinois game?

  37. Reitsma in to restore confidence? He can’t be working because he needs the work, can he?

  38. Nah. UAB was playing the game after that, which was really what I was there to see. I am still bitter about those free throws, because Providence beat Alabama in the next round. &@%$(*#@ Pitino and Donovan…

  39. Good game, well done. Furcal and Orr get on base, Johnson, Andruw and LaRoche have three RBIs each. Smoltz didn’t need to throw another complete game. Great job guys!

  40. They would have beat Providence if it were not for that bogus out of bounds call on the baseline.

  41. With Johnson, Giles, and Andruw all hitting so well, we might have a bit of a dilemma when Chipper gets back–where do all these guys hit? Do we keep Johnson batting second, Giles third, and put Chipper fourth and Andruw fifth, or does Johnson move to the Betemit spot with Giles second, Chipper third, and Jones fourth?

It’s a nice problem to have, either way.

  42. Who knew so many people were aware of APSU? I’m a class of ’03 grad. Here at UGA I have to explain to people I went to a small school they’ve never heard of in Tennessee.
