The Designated Hitter

First of all, I hope all of you are safe and sound and that Ivan left you relatively unscathed. I have a lot of friends and family in the Pensacola/Atmore area, and I know they really got pummeled by the storm. It’s good to know that Mac is doing fine and will return tomorrow with all of the windy details (and perhaps a Survivor recap).

I fretted about this all day. How does one fill the shoes of a master, even for one day? Do I need to write a recap in limerick form? Guarantee a World Championship with my power to foresee the future? Link to nude photos of Hooters girls?

I think I’ll just watch the game and see where it goes from there.

I won’t bore you with a long introduction other than to say that I’m a lifelong Braves fan (I once claimed Brian Asselstine as my favorite player) who grew up in Selma, Alabama. Since 1998, I’ve lived in San Diego where I watch the Braves nightly thanks to a deal I struck with the devil and Cox Cable. I have my own blog, a non-baseball site mostly dedicated to the detritus in my often fatigued brain.

So it’s Capellan v. Trachsel tonight. Thankfully I’m on the west coast, so the Trachsel delay won’t mean a midnight bedtime for me. This thread is open for commentary on the game and snide remarks about the Mets. I’ll be back later with the recap.

{Why does this thing have an eerie Wally Pipp feel to it? Just kidding, Mac.}

  1. Now, I don’t follow the minors as extensively as some, but I’m going to go out on a limb here, and say that this wasn’t one of Jose’s best outings.

    Call it a hunch.
