Does Furcal have money on the Pirates?

Two errors, now a double play. How does Furcal ever hit into a double play?

  1. I’m sure he will redeem himself with 2 outs and Nick Green on and … oh never mind.

  2. Even more improbable (from ESPN’s Gamecast):

Play By Play: Furcal batting, 5 balls, 0 strikes.

  3. If it’s possible for a player to lose a game all by himself, Furcal sure is giving it a good try today.

  4. Andruw just popped up on the first pitch with the bases loaded and a chance to get insurance. A typical Andruw at bat with men on base. Drew flies out to deep left; if Andy does that, it’s a run.

  5. Heck of a win. This is the difference between the Braves earlier in the year and now, they are finding ways to win instead of ways to lose.

    Andruw Jones 2004:

    OPS: 856
OPS w/ runners in scoring position: 804
OPS in Close and Late situations: 1026

    Chipper Jones 2004:

    OPS: 742
OPS w/ runners in scoring position: 838
OPS in Close and Late situations: 478 (4 for 39!)

If you are going to make incrediably annoying comments like this all the time, maybe you could bag on the other Jones for a while. At least then you would have some facts to back you up.

  7. The close and late stat is surprising; a fairly small sample, but I still wouldn’t have called it. The bases loaded stat you give is based on only 12 PA, but I wouldn’t have even predicted that.

Andruw with RISP, 2004 and career: 221/355/442, 261/358/450
Andruw with RISP and 2 out, 2004 and career: 156/325/281, 215/347/387 (over 700 PA)
Andruw with bases loaded, career (since you already posted 2004): 291/308/393

  8. The bases loaded stat you give is based on only 12 PA, but I wouldn’t have even predicted that.

Actually it’s not a bases loaded stat, it’s a – as it says – stat with men in scoring position which is based on 136 PAs. So while small sample size caveats still apply, it’s not quite as meaningless as a 12 PA stat.
