  1. Here’s your stat of the day:

The Phillies are 10-9 with a 4.84 ERA since June 27, including 5-6 against the Braves and Mets. They haven’t won a series this season against the Braves, Mets or Marlins.

Monday’s pitching matchup: Abbott is 0-7 with a 6.94 ERA in his past 13 starts, 0-5 with an 8.64 ERA in his past seven road starts. His best start with Philadelphia was his last one July 10 vs. the Braves, when he allowed five hits and two runs in six innings of a 4-0 loss. He had a three-hit shutout until giving up fifth-inning homers by Charles Thomas and Rafael Furcal. Hampton is 3-1 with a 4.62 ERA in his past four starts, and coming off his best performance of the season in the July 10 win at Philadelphia. He allowed five hits in eight scoreless innings in that game, and is 1-0 with an 0.61 ERA in two starts against the Phillies this season.

  2. I’m not sure this is the type of veteran acquisition a team ought to make for the stretch run. Carl Everett = clubhouse poison.

Something like this would be fine. The idea tonight is to beat Paul Abbott, but not beat Paul Abbott. Every start Abbott makes for the Phils helps the Braves chances. So you don’t want to rough him up too much or the Phillies will wise up and do what they should have done all along and promote Gavin Floyd or Cole Hamels into that fifth spot.
