Prospect LaRoche off to fast start

Atlanta Braves News

“I don’t feel that any of us see him as a (Jason) Giambi-type player,” Moore said. “We see him more in the mold of a (Wally) Joyner or a (Mark) Grace-type of player.”

Well, it’s better than Rico Brogna, I guess.

  1. The way I read that article is that LaRoche will have to earn the job in the spring, and rightfully so, but I don’t know who he is going to compete against if the job isn’t his already.

Old man Franco? Love him, but not every day. Or does JS have something up his sleeve?

This should read: “We don’t feel there is any chance he’ll be a great player. If everything breaks his way he might be decent. Think Randall Simon.”

  3. I think they mean that he won’t be a power hitter but a hitter for average instead. You can interpret that in the same way, if you want, but LaRoche should give the team a lot more production than Simon would.

  4. Now one of Jayson Stark’s unnamed “scouts” thinks he’ll be better than Nick Johnson. Let’s just say that he’s not going to hit 50 homers but should produce in other ways.
